Many of us often wonder how the “other half” live. Well wonder no more – we’d like you to meet ‘Antilla’, the most expensive home in the world.
Estimated to be worth a cool $1 Billion the property is located in Mumbai, India, and is the dream home of Mukesh Ambani, the head of Indian pretro-chemical giant Reliance Industries and fourth richest man in the world, and his wife Nita.
The couple, along with their three children previously lived in a 22-storey home, which the family spent years remodelling to meet their needs. But, after a holiday to New York in 2005, Nita Ambani was so impressed with the interior Asian style décor at the Mandarin Oriental that she wanted something similar for her family to live in.
The 27-storey property measures in at 173m (570ft) tall, but because each floor is double the average height, ‘Antilla’ will technically be close to 60 stories tall. The property is also said to include:
- Six-floors of car-parking (enough for168 cars) for the Ambani family’s and their guests’,
- A health level including Jacuzzi, yoga and dance studios, a gym, ‘his’ and ‘hers’ changing rooms, a juice bar and solarium,
- An entertainment level including a full sized theatre, snack bar and wine room,
- A ball room incorporating a crystal chandelier that takes up about 80%,
- A lobby with nine elevators, two servicing the parking lot, two for the Ambani family, two will function as service elevators and the remaining three for guests,
- Numerous lounges, bathrooms and bedrooms and multiple “safe” rooms,
- A helipad on the roof top, and staff quarters for 600 servants.
Yet, the main reason behind the property’s exceptional price tag was the vast variation of materials used during construction with each floor being built to a different specification. The idea behind this was to blend styles and architectural elements to give the feel of consistency without repetition.
Ambani’s net worth is estimated to be around $US29 billion.
