Perth 'house' sells for $57.5m
The world's remotest capital city, Perth, is abuzz with news that one of its homes has sold for an Australian record price.
WA media sources are reporting that a Saunders St, Mosman Park home has been sold for $57.5m. Located on the banks of the Swan River, the 7500sqm-plus property beat the previous home sales record of around $45m set by a Sydney harbourside property last year. It also smashes the existing Perth record, believed to be around $23m.
The price puts into perspective the recent media interest in the record prices paid for Hawthorn (Vic) and Toorak homes which sold last month, both in excess of $20m. What a difference a resource boom (the Perth house was sold and bought by families with mining interests) and a water view makes...
The stratospheric price paid for the Mosman park house shouldn't be a complete surprise. Perth has for many years boasted some of Australia's most expensive postcodes.
In a recent internet survey of Australia's most expensive suburbs, Perth locales comprised four of the top 15 spots, while Victoria had only one suburb in the list. The remaining ten spots were split 9:1 to NSW and the ACT.
Perth's record breaker had an original asking price that was rumoured to be north of $70m... Perhaps if the owners had advertised the house on homesales.com.au they might have broken the record by an even larger margin...
