Description
Bulleen maintains a culture of sport and physical activity mainly as a result of the suburb being bordered to the west and the north by the extensive Yarra Valley Parklands. The suburb’s proximity to this recreational landmark means it is surrounded by greenery, open spaces and the fauna which is sustained by that environment. Bulleen is able to boast the best of both worlds as it also within very close proximity to the centre of Melbourne and all of the amenities and services that can be found there.
Facilities
There are a number of educational options available within Bulleen which include a public high school, a Catholic primary school and the private school Marcellin College. A number of public primary schools can also be found in the neighbouring suburb of Templestowe Lower. The Yarra Valley Parklands is an impressive venue for recreation, sport and leisure. The myriad of opportunities available in the parklands are provided by walking and cycling tracks, the Carey Grammar Sportsgrounds, two golf courses, picnic and camping facilities, a cricket ground and access to the stunning Yarra River for fishing and swimming.
Bulleen Plaza is the closest and most convenient location for shopping and it includes a number of supermarkets, a range of cafes, department and specialty stores as well as a public library and a medical centre. For cultural interests, the Heide Museum of Modern Art which has been recently refurbished is located in the north of the suburb. The museum is a popular attraction for tourists and its exhibits are changed regularly making it a continually interesting experience for locals.
Industry and Employment
A large proportion of Bulleen residents are employed in professional positions within the centre of Melbourne. A notable number of residents also work in the medical sector either as doctors, nurses or administrators as the Austin and Repatriation Medical Centre is located in nearby Heidelberg. In addition to this, there is an ambulance headquarters is neighboring Templestowe Lower.
Education is another employer of local residents with a number of schools and kindergartens within the area. The Yarra Valley Parklands employs a number of local residents as rangers and maintenance personnel.
