Description
Named after Sir Douglas Nicholls, a former Governor of South Australia, development of the suburb of
Nicholls began in 1991. In the north-west corner of the suburb is the Harcourt Hill Estate where some of
the most prestigious houses in Nicholls can be found. Streets within the suburb are named after sportsmen
and women.

Facilities
Residents of Nicholls have access to two golf courses and a recently renovated $20-million country club, Gungahlin Lakes. The suburb is home to a licensed club, the Perce Douglas Memorial Playing Fields and large tracks of nature reserve for numerous recreational activities. To the east of the suburb is the Gunghalin Pond while further south residents of Nicholls have access to Canberra Nature Park. Gold Creek Village boasts a collection of art galleries, specialty stores and gift shops as well as numerous other recreational and leisure activities which include the National Dinosaur Museum, Cockington Green Gardens, the Australian Reptile Centre and the Bird Walk. Residents of Nicholls also have access to an IGA supermarket and childcare
centre. Schooling options include a preschool, a catholic primary school and the Gold Creek School which services over 1,100 students from Preschool to Year 10. The nearby suburb of Bruce is home to the University of Canberra and the Australian National University, consistently rated as Australia’s top university, is located approximately 13 kilometers from the suburb of Nicholls. The Marketplace is the closest major shopping centre and Calvary Private Hospital is approximately 7 kilometers away.
