Upside Down House built in German Zoo
This property has all the fixtures of an ordinary home including a kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom – it’s just that they’re all upside down.
Everything from the shower to the fruit bowl on the kitchen table can be seen hanging from the ceiling. Thankfully, the property was not designed to be lived in.
The unusual property, dubbed the “crazy house”, was the idea of Hamburg investor Dirk Oster and was built inside the grounds of a Zoo in Gettorf, Germany.
It stands at just over 23 feet tall – or 7 meters high – and balances on a pointed roof, supported by steel beams in the attic. The property was also built on a slight incline to further challenge the viewer’s perspective – as if upside down wasn’t challenging enough.
Local carpenters spent several months painstaking putting the property together, with much care and attention taken to ensure small details, including holding bed sheets in place with needle and thread, were completed meticulously.
All in all the crew screwed 50 separate pieces into the floor, with the beds and wardrobe – complete with mirror – among the most difficult items to secure.
Construction of the property did take longer than normal, largely because workers complained of dizziness. Many tourists also said they felt queasy after spending a few minutes inside.
The Zoo opened the property to the public in March this year.
